Key Responsibilities

As a Trainee Engineer – Controls at Vestas, you will be a part of the Loads and Control (LaC) Quality department. This team is crucial for ensuring fleet performance, including load and power performance. You will work alongside highly skilled international engineers to identify and resolve issues, optimize products, and contribute to the design and implementation of control strategies. Your responsibilities will include:

1. Control Solutions for Turbines: Collaborate with technical leads to develop and test control solutions for wind turbines. This includes understanding, implementing, and testing control code changes in line with established guidelines.

2. Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Perform RCA on controller performance issues reported from the field. You will provide solutions to address these issues, ensuring the continuous improvement of turbine performance.

3. Product Optimization: Work on designing and optimizing the load and control strategy for turbines. This involves participating in implementation and functional reviews and delivering solutions for turbine improvements based on non-standard product requests and service solutions.

4. Cross-Product Design Work: Engage in cross-product design work, collaborating with teams in Portugal, Denmark, and India. This role offers a unique opportunity to work in a multicultural environment, contributing to the development of state-of-the-art control systems.

5. Learning and Development: As a trainee, you will be involved in continuous learning and development. This includes enhancing your skills in control theory, control system modeling, controller design, tuning, and verification. Qualifications and Skills Required

To be considered for this role, you should possess the following qualifications and skills:

• Educational Background: A Master’s degree in Controls, Instrumentation & Controls, Mechatronics, Electro-mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with a strong focus on control systems.
• Experience: 0-1 years of experience in simulation and modeling tools such as MATLAB SIMULINK. Experience gained through internships, apprenticeships, or as a student is also acceptable.
• Control Theory: A strong understanding of control theory and its applications in real-world scenarios.
• Programming Skills: Proficiency in programming languages such as C++, SQL, R, and Matlab.
• Model-Based Control Approach: Knowledge of control design, control tuning, and controller verification using a model-based control approach.
• Additional Competencies: Familiarity with power generation concepts, aerodynamic principles, and a high competence in mathematical modeling of electro-mechanical and hydraulic systems.
