Roles and Responsibilities

At Plum, you'll collaborate closely with a dedicated team of engineers and product managers to deliver exceptional features and functionalities that exceed customer expectations. Your responsibilities will include:

• Feature Development: Work within a tight-knit team to build end-to-end systems that power various aspects of the health insurance stack, including payments, onboarding, claims processing, and integrations.
• System Architecture: Design and develop scalable backend systems, encompassing databases, middleware, and APIs, to ensure high performance, observability, and scalability.
• Performance Optimization: Continuously improve system performance, identify and eliminate bottlenecks within the application and infrastructure.
• Team Collaboration: Actively participate in design meetings, code reviews, and mentorship of new team members. Contribute to technical interviews and play a role in growing and nurturing the engineering team.

Experience and Qualifications

To excel in this role, we are looking for candidates with the following qualifications and attributes:

• Backend Development Skills: 0-1 years of professional experience in backend development using Node.js. Demonstrated ability to build scalable backend systems and APIs.
• Strong Technical Foundation: Solid grounding in computer science and engineering fundamentals, including concurrency, multithreading, data structures, solution design, architecture, and design patterns.
• Analytical and Time Management Skills: Excellent analytical skills coupled with effective time management to meet project deadlines and deliver high-quality solutions.
• Ownership and Initiative: Exhibit a strong drive to take ownership of projects from concept to production. Proactively propose, discuss, and execute ideas to drive continuous improvement.
• Self-Motivation and Organizational Skills: Self-motivated, self-managing, and highly organized with the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
• Open Source Experience: Experience in maintaining a production-grade open-source project, ideally starting from scratch, would be highly advantageous.
